          "This body of work shouldn’t have existed in South Africa at the time. We had our new-found freedom, we needed to express our new-found freedom. What was wrong with me expressing the things I was seeing at the time? Graffiti doesn’t last long, neither is expression through clothing permanent. Fashion and dressing will change. I wanted to capture that time. That gave me reason to do it, even in the face of criticism."
